There's an old adage that states if you have two starting quarterbacks, you don't actually have one, and the Las Vegas Raiders epitomize that idea more than any NFL team has in a while.
Gardner Minshew II and Aidan O'Connell have both largely fallen flat this year as Vegas is off to a 2-5 start with its season on the brink. The franchise added Desmond Ridder in the aftermath of a thumb injury that will keep O'Connell sidelined for several games, though the 2022 third-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons isn't likely to prove a long-term answer.
That leaves the Raiders in a tough spot for this season and reliant on either free agency or the draft next year as avenues toward the franchise QB the team has been seeking ever since it decided Derek Carr couldn't be that player anymore.
James Foster of 33rd Team on Thursday, Oct. 24, predicted that the team will replace Minshew and O'Connell next April by selecting Heisman hopeful and Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward with the No. 8 overall pick.
"Ward is an electric playmaker with an exciting blend of arm talent and mobility. He has the drive velocity and flexible release to attack any area of the field from any platform and can layer throws between multiple levels of coverage. He's the best play extender in this class and has rare creativity out of structure," Foster wrote. "However, as a fifth-year senior, he still needs to significantly improve his timing and processing from the pocket, sack avoidance, ball security and intermediate accuracy."
Ward entered Saturday as the FBS leader in passing yards (2,538) and passing TDs (24).
