A man with felony warrants was arrested by Colorado Springs police Friday with assistance from K-9 units following a brief flee attempt.
Around 11 a.m., detectives received information about a man with felony warrants related to armed robbery and assault on a peace officer. The man was reported to be in the area of 7700 Fountain Mesa Road in Fountain.
Detectives say they had reason to believe the suspect could be armed with a handgun used in the robbery and might attempt to flee. The department requested K-9 unit assistance.
Detectives later spotted the man walking in the area and activated police lights to identify themselves as police. He was ordered to stop and warned police dogs were present.
The man allegedly ignored law enforcement's commands, fleeing on foot. Upon seeing K-9 Milo, he changed directions, unknowingly toward K-9 Kai.
The suspect continued to ignore two additional commands from police to stop, or K-9 Kai would be released.
At that point, the man ran toward a nearby business area, prompting officers to release K-9 Kai, who brought him to the ground. Officers then took the man into custody, transporting him to a hospital before being booked into El Paso County Jail.
