One person died from burn injuries and one person escaped with severe burns after a house fire Thursday afternoon in Skowhegan.

The victim died from the "extent of their burns" Friday morning at Maine Medical Center in Portland, said the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The person who escaped the fire was taken to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan where they are listed in critical condition.

An autopsy to confirm a positive identification and DNA confirmation will be done by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
