The popular "Hat Extravaganza" at Rose Hill Museum, 27715 Lake Road, Bay Village, continues through the summer.
The exhibit, coordinated by the Bay Village Historical Society, features hats from the museum's collection, dating back to 1840. Also on display are hats from the collection of longtime Bay Village resident Ann DiBenedetto, owner of Heady Lady Millinery.
DiBenedetto had a great love of fashion and hats with a personal collection of more than 500. She began her fashion hat shows in Cleveland, as well as Palm Beach and Boca Raton, Fla. Several United States presidents and First Ladies also wore her hats, according to the press release.
Admission is free from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Sundays. Group tours can be arranged.
Membership in the Bay Village Historical Society is open to anyone in the community interested in keeping history alive. Families are welcome.
Road closure: Work began last week on the Lake Road/Douglas Drive Sewer Improvement Project.
The necessary infrastructure work involves the replacement of old sewer main lines. The project is part of the city's larger effort to achieve full compliance with the Federal Clean Water Act, ensuring the long-term health and safety of the community and environment, according to city officials.
Traffic impacts and detours include westbound traffic on Lake Road is closed at Columbia Road.
All westbound Lake Road through traffic are now detoured south on Columbia Road. Drivers are advised to follow all posted detour signage.
Douglas and Glen Park drives are restricted to local traffic only. Through traffic is not permitted on these streets.
Construction hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Occasional Saturday work may be necessary.
Work is expected to be completed by mid-December (weather permitting).
Groundbreaking ceremony: St. Raphael Church officials recently held a ground breaking ceremony for the church's Our Faith - Our Legacy project. Plans are to construct a new pavilion and playground at 525 Dover Center Road.
Business fair: Acton Academy Lakeside is hosting its third annual Children's Business Fair from 10 a.m. to noon June 7 at 502 Cahoon Road.
The event is open to the public for both our young entrepreneurs participating, as well as the community to shop and support.
Children develop a brand, create a product or service, build a marketing strategy, and then open for customers at the one-day marketplace. Approximately 30-35 businesses will be onsite.

Pool opens: Temperatures are warming up just in time for the opening of the Outdoor Municipal Pool, 21012 Hilliard Blvd., June 6. Hours are noon to 8 p.m.

Estate planning: Seniors are invited to attend a free program regarding wills, trusts, and power of attorney at 10 a.m. June 12 at the Senior Center, 21014 Hilliard Blvd.
Collection day: Habitat for Humanity will have a truck in the Senior Center parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon June 21 for residents to donate furniture, small appliances, building materials, tools and other miscellaneous household items.
The organization will use the materials in their Restore shop to raise money for building homes for Habitat for Humanity.
Flag day: Mayor Pam Bobst recently announced that the city will have a short Flag Day Ceremony at 9 a.m. June 14 in front of City Hall, 21012 Hilliard Blvd.
There will be a student from Rocky River schools singing the National Anthem along with Scouts that will lead everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Leading up to that day, the city has received hundreds of flags from Lakewood Park Cemetery. These are flags that have been removed from veterans' graves after the allotted amount of time. A flag cannot be re-placed on a veteran's grave. It must always be a new flag for veterans' placement.
The cemetery receives enough flags from the government to cover the more than 4,000 graves at the cemetery each year. They have been collecting the flags and now there are so many that the city will be offering these flags to residents. They will be in various locations around the city. Residents can take as many as they need.
Summer wellness: Kick off summer with Healthy Rocky River from 2 to 6 p.m. June 22 at the Rocky River Recreation Center, 21016 Hilliard Blvd.
Event highlights include Hilliard Hustle 5K, fitness activities, CLE Market vendors, food trucks, pool party, and live entertainment.

Shred day: Bring personal documents and other papers from 9 a.m. to noon June 21 to Westlake Elementary School, 27555 Center Ridge Road.
Each household may bring up to two standard copy paper boxes of material.
New patio: Hail Mary's, 27828 Center Ridge Road, owners have been meeting with the city's planning commission for approval of a development plan for the restaurant's patio.
The request is to replace the existing awning structure over the patio with an aluminum frame and retractable awning roof. Surrounding the entire patio will be four-foot-high masonry walls with a gate to the sidewalk. Roll down weather protection liners will also be added.
New market: Middle East Halal Market - Bakery is now open at 27351 Detroit Road. The store specializes in a wide variety of authentic Middle Eastern and Mediterranean handmade dishes such as freshly prepared falafel, seasoned grilled chicken, stuffed grape leaves, and kofta kebab, according to information posted online.

Summer reading: The Westlake Porter Public Library representatives have been busy setting up summer readers for success with some reading spots at Clague Park near the Free Little Library.
The library will be stocked with donated books (for all ages) throughout the summer thanks to the Book Nook.

Renewal tax levy: City Council recently voted (May 15 meeting) to submit to the voters (Nov. 4 General Election) a proposed charter amendment to renew the existing 0.9 mill tax levy for the purpose of providing funds to pay for the salaries and other expenses of the police and fire departments, for a period of five years, to be renewed only upon approval by the electors.
CUYAHOGA COUNTY
Library director: The Board of Trustees of Cuyahoga County Public Library (CCPL) recently announced that Jamar Rahming, executive director of the Wilmington Institute Free Library in Delaware and President-Elect of the Public Library Association, has been named Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the organization.
He succeeds Tracy Strobel, who retired as CEO effective June 1.
Rahming was selected to lead CCPL after a nationwide search facilitated by the Board of Trustees with assistance from library consultant June Garcia, according to the press release. He is the first African American person to lead CCPL in its more than 100-year history.
Rahming will begin his new role Aug. 11. CCPL Chief Public Services Officer Pam Janowski will serve as interim-CEO until that date.
