CSISD schools qualify for state marching band contest

The College Station High School Band and Guard placed second overall at the UIL Area E Marching Band Contest on Oct. 26 to qualify for the Class 5A State Marching Contest to be held Nov. 4-5 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The Cougar Band is set to perform its show "Riptide" at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 4.

A&M Consolidated and College Station high schools qualified for the UIL Class 5A State Marching Band Contest following the Area E Marching Band Contest held Oct. 26 at Ray Maddry Memorial Stadium. This marks the third consecutive trip to the state contest for both bands.

College Station placed second in the preliminary round of the area contest to advance to the finals. The Cougar band finished second overall in the area to punch their ticket to state.

"We're incredibly proud of the dedication and talent demonstrated by the students of the Mighty Cougar Band and Guard this marching band contest season," said Jon Seale, band director at College Station High School. "Their hard work and perseverance truly shine when they get to perform their show, 'Riptide.'"

Consol placed fourth in the preliminary round of the area contest to advance to the finals, where the Tiger band placed fourth overall, qualifying them for the state contest.

"I am happy for the entire band that they get to continue to experience positive life changing moments like marching at the state contest," said Steve Fry, band director at A&M Consolidated High School. "Not very many people get to experience the feeling of walking out onto the turf in the Alamodome to see family and friends cheering you on."

The Class 5A state competition is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The preliminary round will be held Monday, with College Station scheduled to perform its show "Riptide" at 9:30 a.m. and A&M Consolidated will perform its show "Suspend" at 2:30 p.m. The top 12 performing marching bands will return Tuesday for the state finals.
