Youth hub to kickstart city's 'enterprise culture'

A new centre is being created in Hull to help budding entrepreneurs set up new businesses in the city.

Hull City Council said it had earmarked £1.5m of government funding to refurbish 161 High Street in the Old Town where the youth enterprise hub will be housed.

Councillor Paul Drake-Davis, the council's portfolio holder for regeneration, said investing in young people and businesses would help boost the city's economy.

"This new hub will provide a much-needed friendly and welcoming space for young people from all over Hull to grow their skill base and self-confidence by learning from local business experts and inspiring peers," he said.

"The aim is that, for whatever length of their engagement with the hub, young people come out of it better prepared for the world of work."

The authority said it would initially focus on regenerating the ground and first floors of the building for the project, which is part of its plan to "help create an enterprise culture which is vital to establishing a vibrant, sustainable and inclusive economy for Hull".
