MERCED, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A speeding driver is in custody in Merced after leading California Highway Patrol officers in a pursuit on Tuesday, CHP said.

CHP says that officers based out of Modesto started a pursuit of a speeding vehicle that failed to yield to emergency lights and sirens on southbound Highway 99. The pursuit entered the Merced area, where more units responded.

CHP says the driver collided with a sign and guardrail near the Applegate Road off-ramp, disabling the vehicle, and blocking traffic. The vehicle was moved off the road by a CHP officer.

According to CHP, the driver was taken into custody without further incident.
