DENVER (KDVR) -- The Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office will provide law enforcement services to Georgetown after recent resignations in the city's police department.

Georgetown is located in Clear Creek County and has a population of just over 2,600 people as of 2020.

The sheriff's office has provided limited police services to the city through mutual aid like emergent cover for officers. However, Georgetown does not have any law enforcement officers currently due to the recent resignations.

Sheriff Matthew D. Harris said his office mainly provides services to unincorporated communities in the county.

"But when we have a local community that needs our help, we will also be there to deliver public safety services for its residents and visitors," he said. "Right now, that community is Georgetown."

The sheriff's office said it entered into the agreement on Dec. 1 so the town would have adequate services to cover its annual Christmas Market celebration.

This celebration happens during the first two weekends of December. The first weekend of the celebration happened on Dec. 7 and 8 and the last weekend will happen on Dec. 14 and 15.

The sheriff's office will provide 911 emergency call response and law enforcement services three days a week, 18 hours per week. Which days it provides services will depend on the town's needs and call volume.

Emergency 911 call responses will happen outside of these pre-established hours but will be billed to the city on a per-call basis.

It will also provide administrative services to the city such as filing incident reports, managing evidence and dealing with sex offender registration.

The agreement between the sheriff's office and the town will remain in effect until May 1, 2025, unless it's terminated earlier. There will also be a review of the agreement on or before Feb. 1, 2025.
