The Phoenix City Council voted Wednesday to lower speed limits at several intersections.
According to a City Council agenda on the vote, an engineering and traffic investigation revealed that the speed limits at some locations were "less than is reasonable under existing conditions." The Council's unanimous decision came after a recommendation from the city's Street Transportation Department on Oct. 16.
The exact date for the speed limit change has not yet been set, according to Lauren Evans, spokesperson for the Phoenix Street Transportation Department. Evans noted that within 100 days of the City Council's vote, temporary signs will be placed in the affected areas to alert drivers of the change. Additionally, the city plans to post reminders on social media.
The installation will happen through phases after the signs are made, Evans said.
Below are the streets or intersections where the speed limit changes will take effect and what the differences will be.
