Packers To Wear 1950s Throwback Uniforms vs Lions

The Green Bay Packers announced today that they're bringing back the fan-favorite throwback uniforms for their Week 9 match-up against the Detroit Lions. The design is inspired by the team's 1950-1953 uniforms which include green jerseys, pants, and socks accompanied with a plain gold helmet and all gold accents.

This will be the fourth time they've worn these particular throwbacks since unveiling the design in 2021 and are currently 2-1 in the three games that they've worn them. In those match-ups they beat the Washington Commanders in 2021, lost to the New York Jets the following season, and beat the Los Angeles Chargers last year.

This will be the team's second alternate of the season, which the NFL only began permitting in 2018 as an expansion of their third jersey initiative that began in the 90s. The program allows teams to wear alternates for up to three games per year as long as only two are home games. It will also be their third helmet design worn after the team introduced their "Winter Warning" uniforms against the Houston Texans that included a white helmet design. A third helmet was only recently permitted by the NFL who expanded their policy earlier this year after bringing back the alternate helmet option altogether in 2022.

You can see the uniforms in action when the Packers take on the Lions at Lambeau Field on November 3 at 3:25 pm CST on FOX.
