Nevada law allows (and still would if Question 6 does not pass) a doctor-performed abortion up to six months (24 weeks), and after six months in a licensed hospital to protect the life or health of the mother.
The ballot question's language can be misleading. It states, "All individuals have a fundamental right to abortion." This removes parental involvement before an abortion is performed on a child.
The amendment allows third-trimester abortions. Current Nevada law allows late-term abortions to preserve the life or health of the mother. Current law requires a licensed physician perform all abortions.
Question 6 would allow a "health care practitioner" -- that includes nurses, psychologists, medical laboratory technicians and other non-doctors -- to perform abortions.
