Buffalo man arraigned on charges from fatal Cold Spring shooting

A Buffalo man has been arraigned on charges connected with a fatal shooting three months ago in the city's Cold Spring neighborhood, acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced.

Alfonso D. Quinney, 48, appeared before Erie County Court Judge James Bargnesi following his indictment on second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Prosecutors said Quinney is accused of shooting Elijah Mingo, 28, with an illegal handgun about 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 6 in the 100 block of Northland Avenue. Mingo was pronounced dead at the scene.

Quinney continues to be held without bail. If convicted of the highest charge against him, he faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
