As Ballad Health continues to advance orthopedic services throughout the Appalachian Highlands, the health system has selected a vice president of its orthopedic service line.
According to a news release from the healthcare provider, Michael (Mike) Piver comes to the health system with 25 years of experience as a healthcare administrator. In his new role, Piver will work closely with key stakeholders and orthopedic partners to continue enhancing orthopedic services that are available throughout the region.
Over the course of his career in healthcare management, Piver gained key experience as a strategic leader in orthopedics. Most recently, Piver served patients in Mobile, Alabama as executive director of ambulatory services at Infirmary Health. In that role, Piver contributed to the growth of Gulf Orthopedics, tripling the number of orthopedic surgeons available to patients in just 18 months.

Dr. Shawn Baldwin joins Ballad Health CVA Heart Institute in Kingsport
Shawn Baldwin, MD, has joined Ballad Health CVA Heart Institute - Meadowview, specializing in cardiac electrophysiology.
At Ballad Health CVA Heart Institute, Dr. Baldwin offers a broad range of cardiac services and treatments.
Dr. Baldwin became fascinated with cardiology long before he even realized he would become a physician.
"God gave me an interest in the heart in elementary school, even before the thought of practicing medicine crossed my mind in college," he said.
Dr. Baldwin earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas and his undergraduate degree at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and two fellowships - in cardiovascular disease and cardiac electrophysiology - at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.
He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in clinical cardiac electrophysiology and cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Collette Hoilman joins Ballad Health Medical Associates Family Medicine in BristolCollette Hoilman, MD, has joined Ballad Health Medical Associates Family Medicine, treating patients of all ages.
At Ballad Health Medical Associates Family Medicine, Dr. Hoilman offers a broad range of services and treatments, including advanced care planning, annual physicals, anxiety/depression, chronic disease management, healthy lifestyle counseling, preventive care, sick visits, well child exams and women's health.
"The opportunity to build long-term patient-physician relationships from pediatric to geriatric ages led me to pursue family medicine," Dr. Hoilman said. "I enjoy getting to know my patients and helping them meet their health goals."
Stephanie Lowe joins Ballad Health Medical Associates
OB/GYN in Marion
Stephanie Lowe, DNP, CNM, has joined Ballad Health Medical Associates OB/GYN, specializing in women's reproductive health and pregnancy.
At Ballad Health Medical Associates OB/GYN, Lowe offers a broad range of services and treatments, including breastfeeding, contraceptive management, hormone therapy, menopause care, menstrual disorders, natural family planning, pap smear testing, STI testing and women's preventive care.
"I believe that in order to really help women, I have to listen to what they are telling me and understand what their goals are," Lowe said.
Lowe earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice and master's in nursing at Frontier Nursing University in Hyden, Kentucky, after completing her undergraduate work at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee. She is board-certified in midwifery by the American Midwifery Certification Board and as a menopause practitioner by the North American Menopause Society.
