BOZEMAN -- Justin Udy is leaving the Montana State football team for a different assistant coaching job at Boise State.
Udy, who served as MSU's wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator/special teams coordinator, has joined Boise State's staff as an offensive analyst/assistant quarterbacks coach, a Boise State spokesperson confirmed Friday.
Udy, 36, became the third offensive coach to leave MSU for an FBS program since the Bobcats lost to North Dakota State in the FCS title game Jan. 6. Offensive coordinator/QBs coach Tyler Walker and offensive line coach Al Johnson took the same jobs at Temple (the Owls made Walker's and Johnson's hires official earlier this week).

MSU hired Udy in 2020 to replace Matt Miller as offensive coordinator/QBs coach. Miller, a Helena native who took the WRs coaching job at Boise State in 2020, was recently promoted to Boise State co-OC. The Broncos elevated former MSU assistant coach Nate Potter to primary OC two weeks ago.
Udy didn't get to call plays for MSU in 2020 because the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bobcats then-head coach Jeff Choate (now the head coach at Nevada) left in early 2021 for an assistant role at Texas. His successor, Brent Vigen, hired Taylor Housewright to be MSU's OC and moved Udy to WRs coach.
The Cats named Udy their special teams coordinator prior to the 2022 season.
Udy began his coaching career in 2012 as the WRs coach/special teams coordinator at Eastern Oregon, his alma mater. The Genesee, Idaho, native then went to South Dakota Mines as the WRs coach/recruiting coordinator in 2015 and was elevated to OC by his final season there in 2017. He became the linebackers coach/defensive administrative assistant at Utah State in 2018, and he worked at Texas Tech in 2019 as an offensive quality control coach.
