A 53-year-old man was arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail for a DUI after hitting and killing a 6-year-old boy who was riding a bicycle on Saturday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The man, identified as Francisco Rosillo Arriola from Apopka, was traveling northbound in a 2003 Chevy Suburban on White Cloud Ave. approaching W Tahoe Street, FHP said. The boy was traveling eastbound on W Tahoe Street approaching White Cloud Ave on a bicycle.
A witness said that Arriola failed to stop at the posted stop sign, FHP said. As a result, the front of the Suburban struck the boy.
The boy was transported to Advent Health Apopka and pronounced dead, FHP said.
FHP said Arriola stayed on the scene and was arrested for DUI manslaughter, DUI 3rd violation, vehicular homicide, no driver's license causing death, and running the stop sign.
