1. The Bulls took their time and patience to stay undefeated
At times the offensive pace was slow. At times the game was sloppy. At times, Chellia Watson shot and shot and shot but couldn't find the basket until the second half, and when she did, she helped UB open a two-point lead at halftime to as many as 16 in a 62-50 win Friday at Koessler Athletic Center. The Bulls opened 4 for 19 from the floor but trailed only 13-10 after the first quarter, then found their touch late in the first half. Watson scored her first four points in the first three minutes of the second half, and helped UB open a 25-23 halftime lead to 45-30 going into the fourth.
2. Canisius started hot but couldn't find a rhythm
The Golden Griffins limited the Bulls to that 4-for-19 shooting start but couldn't capitalize on the opening lag by the Bulls, or the 0-for-10 first-half shooting effort by Watson (12 points), who began the weekend as the No. 10 scorer in the country (23.5 points). The Griffs utilized the bulk of their lineup - 11 players saw the floor in the first half and 12 for the game - and rotated five players inside (Sara Carvajal Caro, Shariah Gales, Mariam Sanogo, Irene Rey Pineda and Yasmine Djibril) but were 8 for 20 from the floor in the first half, including a scoreless stretch of more than six minutes. Jaela Johnson led the Griffs with 14 points and five assists.

Namely Kirsten Lewis-Williams and Noelani Cornfield at the perimeter, who picked up the slack during Watson's scoreless first half. Cornfield's bucket off transition with less than 10 seconds left in the first half broke a 23-23 tie, while Lewis-Williams, the 2023-24 MAC Freshman of the Year, finished with 11 points, six rebounds, and three steals. In the second half, the Bulls held the Griffs to 9 of 24 shooting (including 2 for 9 in the third quarter), part of a 17-for-43 night for the Griffs, who entered the game shooting 39.3% (77 for 196).
