A sign from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control says that a well-known Monterey pub has had its license to sell alcohol revoked. Britannia Arms of Monterey has a sign up on its doors stating that its alcoholic beverage license was revoked. Per the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control's website, the revoked license was issued on Thursday. They did not give a reason for revoking their license. The notice stated the reason for taking away the pub's license was due to a violation of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act.In a statement given to KSBW 8, the ABC said that the charges revolved around operating a "Disorderly House" which made problems for law enforcement. According to the California Business and Professions Code operating a disorderly house means, "Every licensee, or agent or employee of a licensee, who keeps, permits to be used, or suffers to be used, in conjunction with a licensed premises, any disorderly house or place in which people abide or to which people resort, to the disturbance of the neighborhood, or in which people abide or to which people resort for purposes which are injurious to public morals, health, convenience, or safety, is guilty of a misdemeanor." An employee told KSBW 8 that they would be serving food, but no alcohol in the meantime. Nothing notifying customers has been posted on the pub's social media pages. The pub had no past disciplinary actions against them. "Pursuant to the stipulation and wavier that the licensee signed, the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control imposed a 45-day suspension on Britannia Arms of Monterey, followed by an indefinite suspension, with the revocation stayed 180 days to provide the licensee an opportunity to transfer the license," said a statement from the ABC.
