Providence holds on against South Putnam to advance to Indiana 1A State Championship

It was a gritty win for the Providence Pioneers as they held off a late push from the South Putnam Eagles, 35-30.The Pioneers found themselves down in much of the first half until senior quarterback Preston Kempf found the endzone on a 51-yard run to put the Pioneers up 21-16.Providence would come out firing in the second half, extending their lead by three scores in the third quarter. But the Eagles wouldn't roll over.South Putnam would put up two unanswered touchdowns to make it 35 to 30.With a little more than a minute on the clock, the Eagles would get the ball on their own 30. senior quarterback Wyatt Mullin would lead the Eagles down to the Providence 25-yard line until the Pioneer's Wyatt Small would pick off a game-winning pass to seal the win for Providence.The Providence Pioneers remain undefeated, 13-0, and will advance to the Indiana 1A State Finals for the first time since 1993. They'll face a 14-0 North Judson next Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
