Columbia Dental Hygiene Center offered free cleaning for the holidays

MANCHESTER, CT (WFSB) - While many spent their Christmas morning unwrapping gifts, the team at Columbia Dental Hygiene Center was hard at work giving back to the community.

For the third year in a row, the dental practice opened its doors on Christmas Day, offering free teeth cleanings to those in need.

"People like giving back," said Nikos Mohammadi, a team member at the center. "We're all very happy to do that."

From 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., patients received complimentary dental services, with many expressing their gratitude for the opportunity to take care of their smiles without worrying about the cost.

"This is something we're always glad and happy to do," added Nikos.

Dr. Abbas Mohammadi, the owner of the practice, explained that the event holds a special place in his heart.

"It touches my heart that they are willing to come here and help the community," he said.

As families gathered at home, the dental staff was busy providing free cleanings to anyone who stopped by.

Among those receiving free services was Alex Ramos, who was in and out of the office in just 20 minutes.

Ramos expressed his appreciation for the quick and effective care.

"20 minutes. That's it?" he said with a smile.

The American Dental Association recommends two cleanings per year, but for some, financial constraints can make it difficult to keep up with these essential appointments.

"Most of the patients I saw today desperately needed a cleaning," said Dr. Mohammadi. "Every time we do these free cleanings, we see patients are coming with very heavy build up. That means these patients really overdue for their cleaning."

As part of the holiday cheer, each patient received a care package with items like floss and toothbrushes.

Dr. Mohammadi shared the joy of the day: "It just makes you feel good. It just makes you joyful to give that to the community. When you see the expressions on their faces and hear their thanks, that means a lot to us."

The Columbia Dental Hygiene Center's holiday initiative not only brought smiles to those who benefited from the free service but also spread goodwill throughout the community.

As the year comes to a close, the Mohammadi family's generosity continues to shine bright.
