The New Nosferatu Movie Might Break the Dracula Box Office Curse

For about as long as there has been cinema there has been some version of Nosferatu lingering in the shadows. Call him by that name, call him Dracula, call him Count Orlok, call him whatever name you want, but this bloodsucker has been hard to shake.

The German expressionist director F.W. Murnau made his silent opus Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror in 1922. It was essentially an adaptation of Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula, but due to rights Murnau switched up the names of the character. Dracula took Hollywood in 1931 with Todd Browning's production famously starring Bela Lugosi. More recently, auteurs like Francis Ford Coppola and Werner Herzog have made their versions of the tale. Plus, there have been the (often ill-fated) cash grabs. Maybe the less said about the Dracula origin story action flick Dracula Untold - starring Luke Evans as a very sexy version of the Translyvanian who drinks blood to have superpowers in order to defend his wife and child -- the better.
