LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Students, staff and fans from Frederick Douglass High School and George Clark Rogers High School supported their teams at Rupp Arena Wednesday night.
"I think that the recognition in media over girls sports increasing has has definitely helped people get more excited to come to girls games and get them recognition for the hard work they put in," GRC student Jane Sutherland said.
Family members like Pam Parks said the big game gave her an opportunity to dress up in her cardinal red.
"My grandaughter's playing she's number 12 T-12! I'm excited to be here. As you can tell, I'm trying to be fancy," Parks said.
Caitlyn Jantz is a former student-athlete, said she is excited to see times changing and interest in women's sports growing.
"Even though our boys team didn't make it I feel like our girls just get a little bit more respect or attention," Jantz said.
For Wayne Marshall, the game is a chance to support his family and show his daughter what the future could hold.
"This is her first year she's trying basketball, so I'm trying to get her into basketball so hopefully she'll play for DJ so we bring her to the games and try to watch them play," Marshall said.
