Connecticut boys basketball top performers and games to watch (Dec. 23)

Here are the top boys basketball performances from the opening week of the season. Email top performances each week to [email protected].

Darek Albert, Rockville, Sr.: Scored 27 points in Rockville's 69-58 win against Windham Tech. Then Albert scored 10 of his 21 points in overtime to earn tournament MVP laurels and help Rockville win the inaugural Ron Pires Tournament 68-58 over host E.O. Smith.

Cam Belanger, E.O. Smith, Sr.: Scored 19 points in the second half, finishing with 25, in E.O. Smith's 72-60 win against Avon.

John Bogart, Oxford, Sr.: Scored 33 points in his first game back after suffering an ACL injury last season. Oxford lost to Woodland 76-73.

Jake Blyth, Darien, Sr.: Shot 7 of 8 from 3-point range en route to 24 points in the Blue Wave's 68-64 win over Guilford.

Missoni Brown, Windsor, Soph.: Scored 28 points to earn game MVP laurels in Windsor's 85-64 win over East Hartford in the GHPA Classic.

Brett Burnham, Branford, Fr.: Scored 22 points in the opening game of his high school career, a 69-57 win over Stratford.

Joey Carrafiello, Seymour, Sr.: Had 30 points and 10 steals for the Wildcats' in an 82-20 win over Derby. Carrafiello scored a career-high 34 points in Seymour's 68-59 win over Woodland.

Ethan Clements, St. Paul, Soph.: Scored a career-high 32 points in St. Paul's 64-59 win over Naugatuck. Clements added 28 points in St. Paul's 70-45 victory over Oxford.

Mitch DeBernardo, Masuk, Jr.: Finished with 26 points, including 6 of 9 from 3-point range, in the Panthers' 65-53 win over Trumbull.

Aidan Fox, Conard, Jr.: Had 20 points and 12 rebounds in Conard's 53-48 win over Tolland.

Jayson Genova, Ridgefield, Soph.: Shot 9 of 10 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter of Ridgefield's 58-53 victory against Danbury.

Syre Gillespie, Capital Prep, Soph: Scored 26 points as the Trailblazers lost to Prince Tech 73-48.

Jalen Glover, Branford, Sr.: Glover scored 29 points in the Hornets' 72-66 win over Sheehan.

Xavier Goode, Fitch, Jr.: Scored 36 points in the Falcons' win over Windham.

David Grabowski, Canton, Sr.: Had 22 points and 17 rebounds in a 65-56 victory over Stafford.

Darrell Gratic, Lyman Hall, Sr.: Had 18 points and 15 rebounds in the Trojans' 61-31 win over Wilcox Tech.

Amyre Gray, St. Bernard, Sr.: Scored 28 points, including 13 of 14 from the free-throw line, in the Saints' 64-54 win against East Catholic in the GHPA Classic.

Jordan Iverson, Prince Tech, Sr.: Scored a game-high 27 points in a 59-58 loss to Comp Sci.

Nyquan Jefferson, Comp Sci, Jr.: Scored 26 points in Comp Sci's 59-58 victory over Prince Tech.

Johnny Kazantzis, Killingly, Sr.: Scored his 1,000th career point in Killingly's 71-55 win over East Lyme.

Cameron Lumia, Tolland, Sr.: Had 22 points and six assists in Tolland's 53-48 loss to Conard.

Matt Maloney, Greenwich, Sr.: Scored 35 points in Greenwich's 69-67 victory in overtime against Amity.

Ben Noome, Barlow, Jr.: Had 22 points and 13 rebounds in the Falcons' 58-57 overtime win against Abbott Tech.

Charlie O'Brien, North Branford, Jr.: Contributed 20 points and eight rebounds in the T-Birds' 66-52 win over Lyman Hall.

Will Oden-Tann, Manchester, Sr.: Scored 79 points in three games, all victories, against Conard (84-63), Cheney Tech (73-64) and East Lyme (78-65).

Elijah Parker, Holy Cross, Sr.: Scored 37 points as the Crusaders defeated Crosby 86-76.

Giovanni Rosario, Hillhouse, Sr.: Had seven steals in the Academics' 76-53 victory over Stamford.

Vince Russman, Thomaston, Sr.: Scored the 1,000th point of his career in Thomaston's 66-42 win over Northwestern.

Ibrahim Sidik, Innovation, Sr.: Sidik had 25 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in a 66-29 win at Farmington.

Julian Surdyka, Aerospace, Sr.: Finished with 29 points in Aerospace's 71-68 win over Plainville. Surdyka added 23 points in Aerospace's 77-56 win over Canton.

Bryan Tillman, West Haven, Sr.: Had 13 assists in the Blue Devils' 88-47 win over St. Joseph.

Ryan Torello, Fairfield Ludlowe, Sr.: Scored 22 points, including 16 in the second half, in Ludlowe's 65-39 win over Bullard-Havens. Torello also had 19 points in a 60-40 victory at Foran.

Abdou Toure, Notre Dame-West Haven, Jr.: Scored 42 points and added six steals in the Green Knights' 76-59 win at Ridgefield.

Julius Washington, Grasso Tech, Jr.: Scored 36 points against Platt Tech (92-57 win), 33 points against Ledyard (70-63 win) and 25 points against Norwich Tech (75-49 victory).

Noah Young, Guilford, Sr.: Scored 33 points in a 68-64 loss to Darien.

Arthur Kohs Christmas Tournament, Thursday, Dec. 26, 5:30 p.m.: Glastonbury and Waterford have been annual participants, opening the tournament. Host Xavier faces Berlin in the nightcap.

Robert Saulsbury Invitational, Friday, Dec. 27, noon: Five games will be held at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven, featuring three ranked teams: Kolbe Cathedral, West Haven and New London.

Fairfield Holiday Classic, Friday, Dec. 27, 6 p.m.: Notre Dame Prep returns from a stacked Florida tournament at 1-2. The Lancers will face Fairfield Ludlowe while Fairfield Warde and Fairfield Prep play in the nightcap at Leo Mahoney Arena.
