The city said its investigation revealed no evidence unauthorized users obtained sensitive data.
SHEBOYGAN - The city of Sheboygan on Friday shared an update on a cybersecurity threat that arose at the end of October and that included the request for a ransom to be paid.
In the latest update Friday, the city said its investigation revealed unauthorized users had named the city of Sheboygan in a post and shared a screenshot displaying a list of file archives. However, the city said no data had been posted publicly.
"At this time, there is no evidence that these unauthorized users have obtained sensitive data," the city said in its update. "The city continues to monitor the situation closely, working with cybersecurity specialists to safeguard its systems and to ensure the integrity of its network."
The city learned of the potential issue with its network Oct. 31 and, "in an abundance of caution," isolated its IT network and immediately engaged cybersecurity experts to conduct a thorough forensic review.
No other details were shared in the city's Nov. 22 update.
