GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) - A woman is dead after she threatened deputies with a knife in Greenville County, according to officials.
According to Greenville County Sheriff's Office, at around 2:15 a.m. Saturday, Greenville County Communications received a 911 call about a person making threats to hurt others at Kmart Plaza in Greenville County.
The sheriff's office said a deputy responded to the scene and a "verbal altercation" occurred with a woman who has not yet been identified. During the argument, officials said the woman threatened the deputy with a knife and the deputy shot her.
The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment but was later pronounced dead.
Standard with Sheriff's Office protocol SLED was requested to investigate and the deputies involved will be placed on paid administrative leave.
The Sheriff's Office will release a critical incident community briefing video of the incident on January 7.
