(FOX40.COM) -- An El Dorado County correctional officer was arrested Friday in connection to sexual assault, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office.

The 24-year-old officer was placed under arrest for an alleged sexual assault against an inmate. He was booked into the El Dorado County Jail in Placerville. EDSO said it investigated the incident and the officer faces charges of consensual sex with an adult detained in a detention facility.

The sheriff's office said the suspect's bail is set at $50,000 and he has been placed on administrative leave. The incident remains under investigation.
