Stuart Edges SEM to Win Six Man Football State Title

SEM's bid for back to back state titles in six man football came up just short as the Mustangs fell to Stuart 42-38 Friday night at Cope Stadium on the campus of UNK in Kearney. SEM jumped out early scoring on their opening two drives. Maddox Jones scored on a five yard touchdown run to cap off an 8 play 61 yard drive to start the game then scored on a 27 yard touchdown run to give the Mustangs the early lead. After Stuart cut the lead to 16-8, Chance Daake connected with Preston Beattie on a 31 yard touchdown pass with 1:04 left in the first half to extend SEM's lead to 24-8 but Stuart was able to score in the final minute of the 2nd quarter to make the score 24-16 at half. Stuart scored on the opening series of the second half to tie the game at 24-24. The game then went back and forth to the end. Maddox Jones scored his third touchdown of the night with 3:53 left in the third quarter to put SEM back in front 32-24. Stuart answered back with 3 minutes left in the third but the two point kick was no good to making the score 32-20. SEM then marched down the field scoring on a Jordan Scoville 8 yard touchdown run but the 2 point kick was no good as SEM led 38-30. Stuart was then able to answer scoring with 3:44 left in the game but the Broncos failed again on the two point kick attempt and SEM maintained a 38-36 lead. With Just under 2 minutes to play, SEM was faced with 4th down and chose to go for it knowing that a first down would most likely seal the game but Stuart's Gavynn Mustin came up with an interception and returned it to the SEM 15 yard line where the Broncos would score three plays later with 1:29 left in the game to take their first lead at 42-38. The Mustangs tried to put together a game winning drive in the final 90 seconds but Stuart's defense was able to hold and preserve the win.

Stuart was led by quarterback Kayde Ramm. Ramm threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. Owen Littau led Stuart with 118 yards rushing at 2 TD's as Stuart claimed its first NSAA state football championship in school history. Maddox Jones finished with 116 yards rushing on 22 carries and three touchdowns and Jordan Scoville had 93 yards on 10 carries with 1 TD for SEM who concluded the season at 11-1 overall.
