Woman dies after hit by vehicle while crossing Northeast Side road

San Antonio police are searching for a driver who fled the scene of a hit-and-run that killed a woman crossing the street late Friday night. The woman was not using the sidewalk at the time of the fatal crash, according to San Antonio Police Department preliminary information.

Officers responded to the 400 block of Weidner Road on the city's Northeast Side around 11 p.m. Friday, November 22. Upon arrival, police learned a vehicle was traveling south on Weidner Road and struck the woman who was walking northbound in the southbound lane of the street, according to preliminary information.

The woman, who has not been identified at this time, suffered life threatening injuries from the crash and was taken to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and did not render aid, according to SAPD.

Police say when found, the driver will face a charge of failure to stop and render aid - death. This is an ongoing investigation, and updates will be provided as we receive them.

Unfortunately, fatal hit-and-runs are no stranger to the Alamo City. Three people died Friday morning, November 22, in a deadly crash that shut down traffic for several hours. San Antonio police told MySA the crash happened around 4:50 a.m. on the 10700 Block of Roosevelt Avenue. A fourth person was reportedly injured in the crash and taken to a local hospital. KSAT reported the crash involved an alleged hit-and-run driver, who was arrested later that day.
