Angel Reese now touches millions, but a past NIL agent thought she'd make way less.
The WNBA phenom has become one of the most profitable earners in her class and currently has a NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) valuation estimated at $1.8 million, with endorsement deals from Reese's Puffs, Reebok, Beats by Dre, upcoming musical fantasy epic Wicked and more. However, during her time as a student-athlete attending Louisiana State University, a past agent of Reese's once tried to shoot down her hopes of making big figures.
During ComplexCon 2024 in Las Vegas, the Chicago Sky forward sat down with Complex's Speedy Morman and discussed the discouragement she received.
"I used to be with an agency and I'm not with the agency anymore. And initially when I was with the agency, that specific agency told me I was never going to make over $2,000. ... And that was when NIL first started," the 22-year-old said.
Reese continued, "And now it's been me and my agent [Jeanine Ogbonnaya], and I have another agent, Gina [Paradiso], that works with me for basketball. But it's been me and her since then. Being able to make deals, being able to create a brand outside of basketball and we've made millions of dollars, just us two. It's just been us two."
Now that Reese is in a high-earning financial position (with an estimated $2 million salary that's "way off" according to her), the professional basketball star has taken care of her closest loved ones.
"It's not just a luxury for me, it's a luxury for everybody around me," she told Morman. "I can pay my mom's mortgage, my family, everybody's taken care of. I bring my friends here. Two of my friends, bring them on PJs whenever... They love this. They meet Beyoncé , Jay-Z ... All my friends eat. One thing about me, I have a really good circle around me."
