Employee found dead at New Hampshire Insurance Department

Dec. 24 -- An employee was found dead at the New Hampshire Insurance Department in Concord on Monday morning, New Hampshire State Police said.

Troopers responded to 21 S. Fruit St. about 9 a.m. for a report that an adult male employee had been found dead. Investigators were at the scene for several hours.

Police have not released the name of the man who was found dead. The Union Leader has independently learned the man's identity, but has chosen not to publish it.

"This news is incredibly difficult to process and will undoubtedly stir a wide range of emotions," said Insurance Commissioner D.J. Bettencourt said in an email to the entire workforce "While this has been confirmed publicly, we remain steadfast in our commitment to honoring (name removed) memory with the dignity and respect he deserves."

The death was not suspicious and there was no public safety threat according to law enforcement officials.

Bettencourt described the employee as a "talented professional but also a cherished friend to many of us."

"During this time, let us extend compassion to one another and to his family. If you have any questions or need additional support, please feel free to reach out to me, Keith Nyhan, or Jason Dexter." Bettencourt wrote.

"Together, we will navigate this difficult period. Let us uphold the spirit of community that defines us and support one another in every way possible."

State police said anyone struggling with a mental health crisis can get free and confidential support for themselves, a friend or a loved one by calling or texting the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.
