Tuesday is my last full day in Edinburgh on my wee Scotland adventure. Then I'm off to the highlands and the islands and whatever awaits out there. Furry cows, mostly. Perhaps I'll track down the Loch Ness monster. But before all that, we have a Wordle to solve . . . .

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

CASTE left me with one green box and 127 possible solutions. I struggled to come up with a good second guess. I wanted all new letters but I'd used C and S and T and a lot of the words I'd normally use like CHAIR or HOIST were not options. Then I remembered BOINK, which I've used lots of times as a second guess in the past. Today it was extremely lucky, leaving me with just one possible solution: BORNE for the win! Huzzah!

I was feeling quite good about getting this in three (1 point!) until Wordle Bot showed me up by magically, luckily (some might argue, suspiciously) guessed in just two. 99 luck! Get out of here, Wordle Bot. Wordle Bot gets 2 points for guessing in two and 1 for beating me. I lose the point I gained and come away with 0. Our May totals are now:

The word "borne" is the past participle of "bear" (in the sense of carrying or enduring). It comes from Old English "boren", the past participle of "beran", meaning "to bear, carry, bring forth." This, in turn, comes from Proto-Germanic *beraną and ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *bher-, meaning "to carry" or "to bear children."
