The Montana Department of Commerce recently awarded $24 million of grant funding to 12 Montana economic development organizations to generate revolving loans to further develop and enhance Montana's tourism industry.

The funding is through Commerce's Tourism Development and Enhancement Revolving Loan Fund Program.

The EDOs must use that money to create new revolving loan funds that will retain or expand existing tourism-related businesses, encourage workforce development, create good-paying jobs and promote long-term economic growth in Montana's tourism economy.

Locally, the Tourism Development and Enhancement Revolving Loan funding was awarded to Headwaters Resource Conservation and Development in Butte, which will receive $1.4M of grant funding.

Discover Anaconda will also receive grant funding in the amount of $276,785.69.

The Montana DOC also recently announced more than $37 million in federal housing tax credits will be allocated to six developments to build new affordable homes in five Montana communities.

These properties will provide 136 much-needed new homes throughout Montana, including The Homestead in Dillon, which will receive $6.5 million to build 20 new affordable homes for seniors.

In addition, the DOC announced that 49 local event organizations will share more than $740,000 of grant funding to support destination events that will help increase tourism in Montana communities.

The funding is through Commerce's Economic Impact and Destination Event Grant Program, a state-funded opportunity authorized by the 2023 Montana Legislature's enactment of Senate Bill 540.

Eligible grant applicants host events that promote tourism, community and Montana's unique cultural heritage including, cultural festivals and concerts, entertainment shows and productions, educational workshops, indigenous, niche or signatory activities and historical celebrations.

The World Museum of Mining will receive $11,335 of EIDE grant funding. Other area applicants include:

Finally, the DOC has awarded nearly $800,000 of grant funding to help 21 Montana cities, towns, counties and water and sewer districts plan infrastructure projects that will construct or upgrade drinking water, wastewater and stormwater systems.

The funding is through Commerce's Montana Coal Endowment Program and is designed to help address the affordability of local infrastructure projects by providing grants to lower the cost of constructing public facilities.

The following area communities and districts will receive MCEP planning grants:

Beaverhead County Jackson Water and Sewer District will receive $27,000 to complete a wastewater system preliminary engineering report.The City of Dillon will receive $40,000 to complete a water system preliminary engineering report.Powell County will receive $40,000 to complete a stormwater system preliminary engineering report.The Town of Virginia City will receive $40,000 to complete a wastewater preliminary engineering report.

The funding for the program comes from revenues earned on interest from Coal Severance Taxes.
