Des Moines City Council approves 33-story apartment building project

The Des Moines City Council gave developers the green light Monday night for a new 33-story apartment building project.It was a unanimous vote. Now, construction on the high-rise can start in 2025. An opening date is expected in 2027. The 390-unit apartment building will include 39 affordable housing units. The $148 million project will fill the space where the old Kaleidoscope at the Hub once stood. That building -- located at 515 Walnut Street -- was demolished in 2023. The city said this will be the most significant change to the city's skyline since 1991. The project is expected to create more than 700 construction jobs.
