An Amazon driver was arrested after he snatched a phone from a customer during an argument over a package delivery that started because of a dog, Florida deputies said.
Volusia County deputies said they responded to a residence in DeBary on Saturday, Dec. 21 and learned that the dispute began after a delivery driver told a customer he wouldn't deliver a package "unless the dog was placed inside," due to company policy, according to an affidavit shared with McClatchy News.
"We're looking into this, and will take appropriate action upon the conclusion of our review, but drivers are instructed never to make a delivery if they feel unsafe," a spokesperson for Amazon told McClatchy News.
As the delivery driver started to leave, the customer got in his personal vehicle and followed the driver to another dropoff location to record the license plate so he could file a complaint with Amazon, the affidavit said.
But when the driver saw the man recording him, he "became belligerent, demanding (the resident) stop recording him," the affidavit said.
Then, he took the phone from the man and stopped the recording, deputies said. He later returned the phone after neighbors arrived and separated the men, the affidavit said.
After deputies reviewed video footage of the driver snatching the phone, they charged him with robbery by sudden snatching.
He was taken to the Volusa County Branch Jail on a $50,000 bond, deputies said, and was released the next day, according to jail records.
The Amazon truck was picked up by the company manager, according to the affidavit.
