The January 26, 2020 death of Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant shook the sports world and led into challenging times worldwide as the COVID-19 pandemic hit soon after.
The Bryant family, the Lakers and fans worldwide have since done their best to memorialize and eulogize the NBA legend as the torch has been passed to a new generation of superstars both on and off the court following Bryant's death.
The Bryant family recently lost another prominent member: Kobe Bryant's grandmother Mildred Cox, whose life has a noteworthy connection to boxing legend Muhammad Ali.
On Friday, the website Philly.com announced that Bryant's grandmother's plush West Philadelphia home, which she originally bought from the boxing legend, was listed for a price of $600,000.
The home is noteworthy not just for the previous home owner's presence but also because it used to be owned by heavyweight boxing legend Muhammad Ali along with his second wife Belinda and their young children.
"The fact that two Hall-of-Fame athletes are tied to this one property in Philadelphia, I think that's pretty unusual, realtor Nicole Klein of eXp Realty said.
"When Kobe's grandparents purchased the property, nobody would ever have known that Kobe would be Kobe. We probably see a lot of celebrities buying other celebrities' houses in different areas because of who they are, but this happened naturally."
The home covers 2,823 square feet and has an in-ground pool, back porch, large gazebo and other unique features. It rests on nearly half an acre of land and is located at 1835 N. 72nd St. in the Overbrook Park area of West Philly.
"The kitchen is almost exactly the same as when Muhammad Ali owned it," Klein said to Philly.com. "A lot still feels like he was just there."
The house was purchased by Bryant's grandmother from Ali in 1973 for $67,000 and is now being listed for $600,000 on the site Redfin.com.
"When I look out there, I don't think about Ali and his kids," Cox told the Philadelphia Daily News in 2000. "I think of Kobe and everyone else. They spent many enjoyable days there."
